Hackweeks are a good way to support communities and offer some training in open science at the same time. A paper on experiences running them: https://arxiv.org/abs/1711.00028

See also https://oceanhackweek.github.io/hackweek.html and various other hackweek pages.

Potentially incorporate OMF evangelism in the form of buy-in from universities / professors to teach OMF standards in relevant courses. A "take it to the streets" approach if you will. Potentially support graduate students looking for thesis ideas in OMF theory and application for scientific advancement.

Provide some recognition for contributions that early / mid career scientists can use on their CV (or report to their department

OMF may need to streamline working across disciplines by providing introductory training on epistemological underpinnings. Many researchers, particularly from the physical sciences may not receive this - so understanding the validity of different ways of knowing within the OMF communities will be a key point of entry.

SESYNC's workshops on developing pedagogical and curricular materials would be a good model to look at

Educating journal editors, publishers, funding organizations, professional organizations
How can OMF help to get my modeling project done? (guidance for PIs)
OMF related organizations learning from each other on governance
How can university programs contribute to education (new coordinated courses?)

Governance: committee who oversee content and recruit inputs.
Active going to organizations about education (Nature, universities, sponsors)
Providing letters to contributors for their annual evaluations
Ownership of teaching material? (SESYNC model)

Types of activities:
hosts Hackweeks (creating new tools, implement standards)
Online self-paced course (certificates)
winter/summer schools
Sharing educational materials. (videos, Jupyter). Different levels/applications. Keep it up to date.
Open code Badge effort
Instruction videos
Small grant opportunities (workshops) to implement standards
OMF certified repository
Evaluating education material (what do people learn from material)
OMF Software carpentry program?
Recruit postdocs/ students to do something more in depth (OMF sponsored thesis).
Coaching of new PIs, community building. People who are willing to help others.
Teaching people within OMF organization
Mentors in OMF for teaching standards / co-teaching courses
OMF intro course on epistomology if different disciplines

Communication:
Emphasize that this is an effort by different communities.
FAQ section of website
Slack channel (better than discussion board?) , github (ways to get feedback from broader community).
OMF twitter
OMF youtube channel (curated set of videos)
Helpdesk: how to implement standards (ticketing of issues)
Outreach/PR work,
Webinar series (how to do things, testimonies of past projects)
